Du Quoin, Illinois
THE St. Nicholas brewing co. origin STORY
Since the 1800s, the St. Nicholas Hotel has been a landmark in Du Quoin, Illinois. After a devastating fire, the owners reconstructed The Hotel in 1879 at its original location at 12 Oak Street. For the next 125 years, The Hotel served the people of Southern Illinois providing rooms, food, drink, and entertainment. Its location, situated near the train station, provided an ideal hub for travelers and residents.
By 2005, The Hotel was closed for business and abandoned. A piece of Du Quoin history was at great risk of being demolished, but The Hotel was identified as a historic site and the importance of "saving" it was recognized throughout the city. In 2009, renovations began toward the next phase of the building, the St. Nicholas Brewing Company. Years of neglect meant layers of wear had to be removed. The façade has been restored and the building has been structurally reinforced. After years of work, the St. Nick is ready to be a focal point in Du Quoin once more. The St. Nicholas Brewing Company opened its doors in August 2014 as a microbrewery and restaurant. All of our beer is brewed in house and paired with your favorite pizzas and sandwiches. We are so happy to share our love for craft beer with the rest of Southern Illinois! The owners of the St. Nicholas Brewing Company share a love of beer, bicycles, and great food. Our logo brings the past and the present together. We are committed to creating a fun and unique dining experience, while honoring the history of the St. Nicholas. We hope you can join us for fun, great food, and great beer.

An additional 50 seats are available on the patio steps oft the ramp. A brewery operation is in the tront of the terminal - making Southern Illinois Airport the first and only general aviation airport in America with onsite beer brewing in its terminal.
Previous press:
A new terminal building is expected to open early next year. The building is designed to mimic the shape of the airport’s original 1950 hangar. The terminal will house SIA Authority offices, have a lounge area with doors opening onto the runway for easy access to those flying in and out of the airport. It also has a space for meetings or training.
The new building also will be home to the third location of St. Nicholas Brewery. The brewery will have a 75-seat restaurant and 30-foot bar overlooking the runway. An additional 50 seats will be available on a patio next to the runway. A brewery operation will be located along the front of the terminal building. “As far as we can tell, we will be the only terminal in the country with on-site brewing,”* Shafer said. A new storage hangar was built southeast of the terminal. It can hold planes, but also double as an event space. It has a white interior, white floors and restrooms. The new tanks for the brewery rested in one corner of the building. - The Southern Illinoisan
NB: We have recently discovered one other active terminal brewery! We are among fabulous company with Cigar City Brewing - TPA. There are no other breweries located at a “General Aviation” airport in the nation – TPA is a commercial airport. There are 19,000 GA airport facilities in the U.S. Only 492 commercial airports.
